Master Arts in Teaching Benchmark

Throughout my academic and teaching careers I have learned from professors, teacher mentors, and my observation of students some good practices of teaching and learning.

So I listed below some examples of my original works (benchmark assignments) from some courses in the program:

  1. ENGL 654: Writing Across the Curriculum. In this assignment I was to create a lesson plan unit that implemented writing in the content area science. Click here for a sample.

  2. EDUC 500: Learning Theory. In this assignment I was to write a paper about learning theories and how the understanding of them helps teachers to design an effective teaching and learning experience for their classroom. Click here for a sample.

  3. EDUC 656: Teaching Content Area Reading. In this assignment, I was to create a thematic lesson plan unit in content area science that uses a specific strategy, PAR (prepare, assist, reflect). Click here for sample.

  4. EDUC 504: Historical & Philosophical Foundations of Education. After learning about traditional, modern, and contemporary philosophies and theories, I  was to write a paper about my personal philosophy of education using a Christian approach as a filter. Click here for a sample.

Science for Education

Science for Education is a project that I created through EDUC 696 Current Issues in Education. It is a website with a mission to support teaching and learning in science education by providing science materials that will generate children's interest in science and support science teachers in their classrooms. Users can have free access to short science experiment videos, science equipment review videos, printable science activity sheets, and tips to write a successful grant for science classrooms.

Grants

Writing grant proposals is a great example of what "words matter" means, where words are taken advantage of for a great cause.

My passion for teaching and giving the best experience of learning for students has become my motivation to write grants for my classroom and/or school. Meanwhile, my personal interest in persuasive writing, research, planning and budgeting finds its outlet when I write grants. I have written some grants in the past and fortunately I have always received "yes" from the grantors. I would like to write again when opportunities come.
